Annual Sneaker Ball and Golf Scramble
You won’t want to miss the third annual Sneaker Ball on April 13, 2012. This fun-filled event will be held at the Smyrna Air Center and feature an address from former NBA Point Guard Muggsy Bogues, in addition to sports memorabilia from the professional and collegiate ranks.
Sneakers and casual business attire will be the “in thing” for the evening events. Earlier in the day, you may want to tee off in the annual First Shot Golf Scramble at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro. The best ball scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 12 noon. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. All proceeds from the Sneaker Ball and Golf Scramble will be used to enrich children’s lives through our free camps.

About the Speaker
Muggsy Bogues is living proof that good things come in smaller packages (figuratively speaking). The shortest player ever to play in the NBA, the 5 ft 3 in Bogues played point guard for four teams during his 14-season career in the National Basketball Association. He played 10 years with the Charlotte Hornets, in addition to short stints with the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.
Bogues was the recipient of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award upon graduation from Wake Forest University in 1987. He played for the gold medal-winning USA team in the 1986 FIBA World Championships. He was chosen 12th overall in the 1987 draft and signed by the Bullets, but left unprotected in the 1988-89 NBA expansion draft. The Hornets drafted him on June 22, 1988, and he settled in to a long tenure as a crowd favorite – an exceptional passer, great ball-stealer and one of the fastest men in the game. He currently works in the front office for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats. His autobiography, In the Land of Giants, recounts the struggles of growing up in inner-city Baltimore and achieving success in the NBA.
